What does AI readiness mean in Azure?
An AI-ready environment gives teams a controlled place to build, test, and operate useful workloads. It includes people and procedures as well as cloud resources. The aim is to make approved work repeatable while keeping access, spending, and operational responsibility visible. Buying additional services is not a substitute for those decisions.
Establish ownership before deployment
Assign an owner to each application, data source, and operating budget. Separate development, testing, and production responsibilities where appropriate. Document who can approve new tools, grant access, change configuration, and respond to incidents. A shared platform should simplify these decisions without leaving application teams uncertain about their responsibilities.
Design identity and data access together
Give users and services only the permissions they need. Determine which information an agent can retrieve and which actions it can perform. Test access using realistic user roles, including people who should be denied. Keep secrets outside model instructions and review what is stored in conversation history, logs, and diagnostic tools.
Use the five quality perspectives
Microsoft's Azure Well-Architected Framework covers reliability, security, cost optimization, operational excellence, and performance efficiency. Apply these perspectives to the complete business workflow. For example, a low-cost model is not economical if people must repeatedly correct its output, and a fast response is not useful if it comes from an unavailable dependency.
Prepare for ordinary failures
Test what happens when a model is unavailable, a tool times out, or a user loses access. Set spending alerts and practical limits. Define a manual fallback and a named support team. Review region and service availability before committing to a design, and revisit the decision when the workload or its requirements change.
Frequently asked questions
Is a landing zone the same as an AI application? No. It provides the environment in which applications operate. Do platform controls guarantee safe answers? No. Application evaluation is still needed. What should teams do first? Agree on the business workflow, owners, and access boundaries.
