What can Copilot Studio do?
Microsoft Copilot Studio is a graphical environment for building and managing agents and workflows connected to business information and systems. It can support experiences in channels such as Teams and Microsoft 365 Copilot. Available capabilities and billing depend on the configuration, so validate the intended experience in your own tenant.
Choose one employee or customer task
A good starting point might be answering questions from approved policy documents or preparing a service request. Write down what a successful answer or action looks like. Also define exclusions: information the agent cannot use, decisions it cannot make, and situations that require a person. Keep those boundaries visible to users.
Prepare the knowledge sources
Use information with a named owner and a clear review process. Remove outdated or conflicting versions, and test whether different users see only appropriate content. Ask questions that require the agent to admit missing information. An answer that sounds confident should still be checked against the underlying source.
Add actions with explicit controls
Begin with retrieval or drafting before granting permission to change records. For each connected action, identify the identity used, required permissions, input checks, and approval step. Test duplicate requests and interrupted sessions. Tell users what has actually completed and what still needs attention.
Pilot where people already work
Release to a limited group in the intended channel. Observe task completion, correction effort, and points where people abandon the conversation. Train the support team and provide an escalation route. Confirm licensing and consumption costs using realistic usage rather than estimating from a short demonstration. Expand after the pilot meets agreed quality and operational thresholds.
Frequently asked questions
Does low-code mean no engineering oversight? No. Integration, security, and support still matter. Can the agent use every company document? Access must remain appropriate to the user and purpose. What is the best first metric? Successful completion of the intended task, with acceptable quality and effort.
